Complete Apt Repository Sources.list |
|||||
The following information is not suggested as running sources.list file. I have created this article to database the various Repositories I may or may not use to access packages. I do not leave these repositories in my sources.list file. I don't feel that there is value in having 300+ repositories in ones sources.list at one time, this is messy, eats excessive amounts of cache space on the drive, and can lead to system conflicts. BUT, you may from time to time wish to access specific data on a given repository listed here... I would suggest adding it, updating, and then removing the file or commenting it out. also Would suggest doing an apt-get clean after removing repositories from your sources.list file. This will clear the apt cache, and you can proceed to apt-get update. thus giving your system a fresh cache.
A bit of information on Repository calls. The Main, Contrib, and Non Free triggers define separate sub catagories, Main is self explanatory. contib are packages that have been contributed to the repository, but haven't been inducted into the main release for one reason or another. Usually they just haven't gotten around to it, or don't consider it to be popular enough. Non-free are third party packages, that can not be inducted into main due to copyright laws. Though I really don't understand the ins and outs of that, thats pretty much the gist. I believe both Java Run Time Environment, as well as Flash are in the Non-free Category Standard Etch Repositories, on pretty much every Etch machine: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib non-free deb-src http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib non-free --- Unstable Debian Packages, Currently Sid: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free (Note: From my understanding Unstable does not contain security repositories, and I added the deb-src, but have never actually used that one, if it gives you problems drop it. I have only actually used the first) --- Innotek's Virtual Box, A Virtual Machine Software similar to Novell's VM Ware: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian feisty non-free deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian edgy non-free deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian dapper non-free deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian etch non-free deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian sarge non-free deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian xandros4.0-xn non-free (Note: You only need one of these. select the one that is correct for your Version of Debian. The Public Key can be found here, and there is a detailed Article on this knowledge base on the installation and use of Virtual Box here) --- Debian-Multimedia.org : Multimedia and Font Packages --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org etch main (Note: I forget exactly what all is on this server. I originally collected the URL because it host a port of Microsoft's True-Type Fonts) I have more to come soon...
